According to a report published by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the USA, around 10 million people are physically abused by an intimate partner in one year, which equates to 20 people being abused every minute, a large majority of whom are women.
The rage over hijab is not only in the form of coercive means adopted by governments, but there is also a trend of Muslim women voluntarily removing hijab in the name of breaking shackles of ‘bondage’ and acquiring freedom.
The command is ‘not to display your beauty’, which means that when you go out, the covering should be wide enough to cover the physical beauty of the whole body as well. At another place, covering of the head is also commanded.
Even in this modern age, menstruating women are forced to leave their bedrooms and are kept in seclusion, let alone sleeping in the same bed with their husbands. However, the Holy Prophetsa sets a truly spectacular example not just for Muslims but for any civilized person in the world
In order to fulfil the aim and objective of the purpose of our creation, the efforts of women are as necessary as that of men. In my opinion, the perception of what Islam expects of women has not dawned upon them and how their lives should be spent whereby they can, attaining the pleasure of God, become the inheritors of the bounties of Allah Almighty, not only in the hereafter but in this world as well.
